RUNNING INJURY ASSESSMENT & REHABILITATION
SPORTS INJURY ASSESSMENT & REHABILITATION
STRENGTH TRAINING FOR ATHLETES & THE ELDERLY
POST-SURGICAL REHABILITATION

That's a truly shocking statistic. BUT that also means 20% don't....let me help you join the right club!
If you want your injury / area of pain to be DIAGNOSED, then of the many 'therapy professions' out there, only a Physiotherapist is legally allowed to make a clinical diagnosis. ALL professions have their respective roles to play, with my role being to DIAGNOSE from which rehabilitation can then be planned.
Amateur runners really know how to make hard work of run training. Chances are they're over-training AND not engaging in strength training....with me in your corner I can change ALL of that!
I've been helping people to regain muscle mass and improve strength for many years, so I can help you too!
The fact is that most running injuries can be avoided...and I can help you find out how
The body LOVES movement, hence why rehabilitation for lower back & lower limb pain will always involve exercise-rehabilitation in addition to other forms of treatment.
So whether it's a stiff joint that needs to be loosened, a weak muscle that needs to be strengthened or any other tissue dysfunction, I'll ALWAYS be able to offer you some form of help.
Being a runner myself, I know the elation of a well-executed performance. With a structured and bespoke run-specific Strength & Conditioning plan, I can guide you through a much neglected form of training to raise your running performance
Specialist Assessment & Rehabilitation to get you back training & competing ASAP
Personal Strength Training for;
* Performance Gains
* Rehabilitation
* Health & well-being
Ageing well, starts with improving STRENGTH....without strength, the ageing process will simply accelerate. You're never too old, to get strong!
Hip & Knee joint replacement
ACL Reconstruction ~ Meniscal Repair
50% is the surgery, the other 50% is quality & timely rehabilitation
Spinal Manipulations (also called 'adjustments') are a safe and effective way to restore motion at stiff & restricted joints in the spine in the treatment of back and neck pain. It's not just a chiropractor who can treat back pain, physios do too!
From tight to knotted muscles, sometimes nothing beats the results achieved with careful and selective hands-on treatment to 'find the spot'
The insertion of fine needles into tight and / or over-active muscle tissue has been a real game-changer for many of my patients over the years
Fixing your Musculoskeletal problem is always a team-effort. To compliment the work I perform on the treatment couch, you will always be prescribed bespoke exercises for optimal results
Formthotics are my orthotic of choice for both athletes and non-athletes. This stems from many years of trialling various brands - light, supportive and cost-effective, they really are a great product
This is not an exhaustive list of my treatment repertoire.
Please get in touch if you need any further information.

2. Increasing strength to improve Running Performance...something EVERY athlete is interested in!

If you're a little intimidated or inexperienced with strength-training then fear not - I will supervise and guide you through everything.
So whether you're adding strength training towards your;
* Marathon training plan
* Ultra-marathon training plan
* General Run training plan
...I can help in taking your running strength and injury resilience up several gears!

£ 100 for 3 sessions
Maintaining or even better, improving strength, is critical to ageing well, remaining independent, and leading a full and enjoyable life.
It is NEVER too old to get strong!
The most important part of helping you recover from your back pain, is the assessment.
In the assessment I aim to establish both the SOURCE and the CAUSE of your pain as a lot of the time, where you FEEL the pain can be some distance from where the pain is being created!
Your 'back pain' could even be referred pain from your hip joint!
Once I know what is behind your pain, only then can I effectively treat you.
As you'll appreciate therefore, it's not just a case of "jump up on the couch and let me massage it better!"
For all other non-sports related musculoskeletal complaints, this is the assessment you need;
* Shoulder
* Hip
* Knee
* Foot and ankle
Achieving full potential from your surgical intervention, can only be found via quality and timely post-op rehabilitation.
Don't let the opportunity slip by with long waiting lists. Book in to see me and let's crack on!
Since 2016 I have been coaching 'aspirational age-group athletes' in triathlon and running to reach their true potential and achieve their athletic goals.
Currently focusing solely on runners, as a UESCA Certified Running Coach, you can be assured of the highest level of scientific reasoning and personal application.
Please get in touch to discuss how I can be of help in your running pursuits.
I've been a Chartered Physiotherapist for over 19 years now and barring a short spell back in the NHS working as an Advanced Practitioner First Contact Physiotherapist (FCP), have been a self-employed private practitioner for some 15 years.
Between 2008-2017 my former clinic 'McBride Physiotherapy' provided the Orthopaedic Triage Service for North Lincs CCG out of clinics in Scunthorpe, Brigg & Epworth.
In 2013 I was awarded my Masters degree (MSc) in Musculoskeletal Medicine.
Helping people overcome their pain and achieve their respective goals is a genuine privilege for me and will never lose its appeal.
I am proud to be a Chartered Physiotherapist and fully embrace the ethical, moral and patient-centred values the profession endorses.
Running is my main passion with a 5 year spell where triathlon 'took over' my life!
I have completed eleven Ultra-marathons including the Viking Way plus a bit extra (160 miles) over four consecutive days and 100 miles in 24 hours back & forth across the Humber Bridge.
I'm a proud member of the 5k sub-20, 10k sub-40 and half-marathon sub-90 respective clubs and knees permitting still have a few more ultra-marathons and ultra-triathlons on the list.
I've staggered across the finish line in four full-distance (140.6) 'Ironman' triathlons, multiple half Ironman (70.3) triathlons and proudly faced my open-water fears with three sea-swim triathlons...I still don't know how!
Keeping on the endurance theme, I've also ridden my motorbike (my first true love!) from John O'Groats to Lands End in under 14 hours...much easier than cycling it!
I live with my long-suffering beautiful physio wife Helen, our dobermann, Lenny, two cats and a teenager who occasionally grunts something at me between raiding the fridge and cupboards. If I'm not out training in and around the beautiful Broughton woods then I can be found walking in them with my dog!
“Ian McBride is probably one of the best Physiotherapists I have ever visited. From the minute you step foot into Ian’s clinic, his examination, diagnosis and treatment are second to none.
I have always described Ian as like a Detective, he uses every little bit of his vast knowledge to understand and treat any issues that you present to him. He not only wants to diagnose and treat, he wants to fully understand and get to the bottom of exactly why you have the issue/injury in the first place.
Ian has a passion like no other, he is also a keen athlete himself who wants to support you on any journey that you wish to undertake. My advice……pay him a visit! You will not be disappointed.”

No. All further appointments will be paid in advance via the online booking form or alternatively as a BACS payment - payment secures your appointment
This is a difficult question to answer as the number of sessions may differ considerably based upon the individual, their presentation and their particular goal(s) with Physiotherapy. I will of course discuss with you the anticipated number of sessions needed following the assessment.
Whilst I'm an experienced and advanced level practitioner keen to get you better as quickly as possible, I didn't graduate from Hogwarts school of wizardry! If you're after a one-hit wonder then I can warmly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etviGf1uWlg ....enjoy!
Well, hopefully you'll have realised from my 'services' and 'treatments used' that I offer a WIDE variety of treatments, including exercise therapy. Typically I utilise a combination of 'hands-on' treatment alongside exercises performed 1:1 in the clinic
Physiotherapists treat backs too!! Given that approximately 90% of the population will experience back pain at some point in their life, then in my 17 years as a Physiotherapist I have successfully assessed and treated a LOT of patients with back pain.
If you witnessed me working not knowing my profession, you could mistake me for a chiropractor at times as I use 'spinal manipulations' (called 'adjustments' by chiropractors) a lot. However, I also use other methods of hands-on treatment as well as exercise-therapy.
Well, that's entirely your prerogative of course but for a speedy and expert level of assessment then I'd recommend an assessment with me. My advanced level of expertise will be able to determine if your problem is something I can help you with or not. If not I can then liaise with your GP to assist in ongoing management.
Of course!
Loose clothing is always preferable as I will be assessing how your body moves and so tight clothing will interfere with this.
For a lower limb complaint then a pair of shorts / loose trousers that will roll up would be advised.
For a foot & ankle complaint then I will be asking you to remove your sock...it always amazes me when people are surprised by this, although typically it's because they haven't painted their nails!
For a back complaint I will need to actually look at your back and so again loose clothing will help.
For a shoulder complaint then a t-shirt / vest top would be hugely helpful.
If you're at all unsure then please e-mail me at ian@mcbridephysioandperformance.co.uk
Sadly not. The clinic is just me and I never intend to employ anyone EVER again!!
To the right of the grey entrance doors is a bank of buzzers.
Press my button (Suite 3 McBride Physio & Performance) and wait for me to buzz you in.
Once in reception you can sit and wait till I come and collect you at your appointed time.
Yes you can. Please ask me about this following your first session.
I have intentionally NOT registered with private healthcare companies as invariably they refuse to pay our full fees. I can of course provide you with a receipt on headed paper / e-mail for you to then claim your costs back
Obviously cost and what we value are very subjective and differ from person to person. Whilst I don't value and therefore would never pay for the very latest phone or gadget, my ageing feet will be treated to the best trainers I can afford whilst my dog eats better than I do!
My fees reflect what you are receiving;
* An expert therapist with thousands of hours of post-graduate self-funded training
* 17 years clinical experience with a Masters degree in Musculoskeletal Medicine
* Accessibility - evening and weekend appointments as well as daytime
* No long waiting lists
* Time - 45 minute assessments. I'm not trying to rush you out the door. I'm genuinely intent on getting you better which means starting with a thorough initial assessment to understand everything about your problem(s) so that I can get you better as quickly as possible
* Consistency - you will only ever be treated by me as opposed to being moved between therapists. Consistency of treatment especially with a specialist in their field like me will get you better much faster
* Facilities - easy access, free on-site parking, pleasant reception / waiting area, toilets, modern and spacious clinic room, strength training equipment
I'm only interested in being the very best Physiotherapist I can be, not the cheapest.
